Mee Godard
About Mee Godard
Born to South Korean farmers, adopted at nine months old by a French couple and then educated in France, Mee Godard certainly doesn’t fit the stereotype of a winemaker in Beaujolais. Still, she has earned great praise for her beautiful Beaujolais in a very short time. Jancis Robinson MW, in particular, says her wines “evolve beautifully with age, and yet they are compelling when young”. William Kelley concurs, and he has also been full of praise for this brilliant winery:
“The result is pure, elegantly structured, traditionally styled wines, with the substance to age but also considerable upfront charm. What’s more, each and every cuvée is beautifully differentiated by site. Everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended.” William Kelley, Wine Advocate
Mee Godard cut her teen in Oregon and Montepellier. Still, her practical experience came from her internships with the great names of Burgundy like Maison Chanson, Comtes Lafon and Corton André. Finally spreading her wings in 2013, she has fast ascended as a name to watch.
Her winemaking approach is resolutely classical. In the vineyard, organic conversion has been underway since the outset. In the winery, whole bunches are used, macerations last several weeks, with pump-overs and punch-downs, adapted vintage by vintage. Maturation follows in concrete, foudre, demi-muids and barrels, depending on the cuvée.

(6x75cl) 2021Jancis Robinson (17)
Tasted straight after the 2022, the nose comes out of the glass more savoury, crunching with herb stems. A mycorrhizal scent, geosmin. And the wine is more delicate. Wild strawberries, sour cherry. High-wire acidity and very very slender, high-wire tannins. Fresh in a crushed-leaf fragrant way. Arcs high in the mid palate, but not with fruit. There is something more mineral stony at its core. Sucking on bitterness. Leaves the same imprint of texture as the 2022, perhaps even a little silkier, on the finish. Scarlet-line length.$225.00 -

Aromas of cherries and berries mingle with notions of licorice, spices and sweet soil tones to introduce the 2019 Morgon Côte du Py, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated wine that's seamless and complete, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, sapid finish. Serious and compelling, it's a terrific effort from Mee Godard.$398.00 -
(6x75cl) 2022James Suckling (95)
This fleshy and well-structured Morgon has a great combination of ripeness and freshness, and the balance at the front of the medium-bodied palate is already spot on. Excellent concentration right through the very long, compact finish. Just beginning to open up. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.$172.00 -
Vinous (93)
Dark ruby. Mineral-inflected dark fruits on the deeply perfumed nose, along with incense, allspice and floral accents. Alluringly sweet and weighty on the palate, offering intense boysenberry and black raspberry flavors braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Slowly building tannins frame a very long, sappy finish that strongly echoes the floral and mineral notes.$121.00
