Vinous (93+)(bottled in April of this year, a month or two later than the other 2014 white wines at this address): The nose offers perfumed scents of lavender and white pepper complemented by sweet oak. Then sappy, spicy and brisk on the palate, but with a silky texture to its intense lemon, mineral and spice flavors. At once serious and wonderfully fine-grained, like a young Chevalier-Montrachet should be. The palate-saturating finish features saline soil tones and excellent mineral lift. Incidentally, this wine is made at the Domaine de Montille cellar in Meursault. |

Vinous (87)Gold-tinged yellow. Rather exaggerated aromas of hazelnut and almond. Fat yellow fruit flavors are supported by decent acidity but could use more definition. Finishes a bit dry-edged, with hints of nutmeats and oatmeal. Not a great showing, and likely to evolve quickly. (Incidentally, I found the Bourgogne Blanc Le Clos du Château de Puligny-Montrachet a bit too tropical and liqueur-like, with its nutty oak element amplifying its hint of oxidation.) |

Vinous (88-90)The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Village comes from two climats populated with 45-plus-year-old vines that are close to Puligny, which explains the green apple and wet limestone aromatics. The palate is crisp and taut, very linear and focused. A twist of sour lemon toward the malic finish extends the length. Good energy here. |
