About By Farr
Gary Farr is a true pioneer of Pinot Noir. He is one of Australia’s finest and most knowledgeable winemakers with Pinot. His pedigree was built up over decades, first in Australia at Bannockburn, then working 10 vintages at the legendary Domaine Dujac in Burgundy.
In 1994, he channelled all that expertise into his own estate in Geelong, Australia around 100km southwest of Melbourne. He purchased a historic estate, whose vineyards go back to the 1800s. With the help of his son Nick, they are producing world-class single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

(6x75cl) 2023The Real Review (97)
Bright, medium-yellow hue; restrained nutty, creamy, faintly buttery and lightly toasted bread aromas, a touch of 'milk bottle' confectionery. The palate is taut and tensioned, with vibrant acidity and subtle lemon/grapefruit and pear aromas, the lemony fruit and acidity driving it to a long finish. Bright and nervy: a more delicate and reserved style of chardonnay for this region and producer, and promises to have a long and bright career.$394.00 -

Shimmering ruby-red. Intensely perfumed red fruit preserve, potpourri, exotic spice and vanilla aromas show outstanding clarity and minerally lift. Conveys an impressive blend of depth and energy on the palate, offering sweet Chambord, cherry cola and spicecake flavors and a touch of botanical herbs. The wonderfully long, focused finish features reverberating red fruit and floral notes and polished, finely interwoven tannins.$438.00 -

(6x75cl) 2022The Real Review (94)
Medium depth ruby, bright with purple reflections; the bouquet a mix of red cherry, smoky savoury notes, root vegetables and vanilla. Stalky nuances are there but tucked more in the background. The wine is rich and full in the mouth with generosity and ample, mouth-coating tannins which are fine, ripe and supple. A slighty less-varietal pinot but a wine of real substance.$401.00 -
The Real Review (97)
Light to mid-yellow colour, with a shy, reserved bouquet of savoury elements including almond meal, stone fruits, malt and bran biscuit. Traces of honey and nougat emerging. Appealing creamy lees touches. The wine is tremendously intense and beautifully rounded, soft-textured and finely balanced while enlivened by its citrusy acidity. Long, long carry. A classy wine of great complexity and refinement.$759.00 -

Light to mid-yellow hue, with a reserved, shy bouquet which has traces of lemon balm, creamy lees and pencil wood, while the flavour is tremendously intense and focused, powerful in an understated way, with lemon and grapefruit flavours, showing concentration as well as subtlety, the finish lingering on and on. Time will doubtless build that bouquet further. A smashing chardonnay.$455.00 -

The Real Review (98)
Light-mid yellow, bright, with complex aromas of bread crust, buttery croissant, oat biscuit and creamy lees nuances, the palate fresh and bright, intense and alive with lemon juice, lemon zest flavours—quite tight and reserved with a dry finish and tension that suggests it will build more complexity and richness with time. It's already an outstanding chardonnay of great flavour and refinement.$657.00 -

Bright and shiny light to mid yellow colour; roasted hazelnut and lemon curd aromas, a suggestion of marzipan or almond. The wine is intense and precise on the palate, beautifully focused and concentrated yet with great poise and finesse, the finish powering long with a cleansing, refreshing follow-through. Beautiful chardonnay, with great potential.$555.00 -

Medium-yellow, bright colour with aromas of leatherwood honey, flowers and discreet notes of apricot and other stone fruits. In the mouth, it's bright and intense with crisp, freshening acidity that cleanses and extends the finish. Quite definite varietal fruit character; acid sits out slightly from the body.$388.00 -

Deepish red colour with a subtle tint of purple. The bouquet is savoury, complex and charcuterie-tinged, dried herbs too, the palate rich and generous, fruit-sweet at the core and almost plush in its texture. A succulent pinot. There are ample tannins supplying backbone and contributing to length, all in harmony with the gorgeous richness of flavour. A stunning pinot.$888.00 -

The Real Review (96)
Medium depth red with a tinge of purple and aromas of crushed stalks giving a dusty peppery, celery salt bouquet. Traces of Campari and root vegetables. The wine is medium weighted and finely structured with talcy tannins and a lovely clean, resolved finish that rolls on and on. Real elegance here.$430.00 -

The Real Review (99)
Deep crimson colour with a good strong purple tint, and the bouquet is very foresty, with more whole-bunch character than the other Farr pinots this year. Root vegetable, freshly-turned earth and dried flower petal aromas, clean and fresh and deliciously inviting. It's more open than the Côte Vineyard at this stage. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, powerful and emphatic, the ample tannins adding force to the wine's structure and persistence. A majestic wine with tremendous intensity and length that is great now but should also reward cellaring for many years.$592.00 -

The Real Review (98)
Deep and bright, youthful colour with lots of purple in the rim and great limpidity. The first aroma is of root vegetables, potato and parsnip, gradually giving way to rich ripe dark cherry that floods the palate with succulent sweet fruit flavour and beautifully balanced fine-grained tannins. The tannins provide a backbone and a counter-balance to all that opulent fruit. A totally impressive and convincing pinot noir. It has wow factor.$623.00 -

The Real Review (99)
Deepish crimson colour with a good tint of purple on the meniscus. The bouquet is restrained and shy, brooding and deep, all confirmed by the palate, which is also full-bodied and very deep, concentrated and densely packed, with more earth-bound than fragrant aromatics, some smoky-barrel nuances neatly combining with five-spice and dried thyme touches. A robust, powerful pinot with terrific length and potential.$560.00 -
The Real Review (97)
Medium-deep red with a good purple tint and a mossy, forest-floor/earthy undergrowth and smoked smallgoods bouquet, the palate refreshingly lively with clean acidity underlying the complex, savoury, medium-bodied flavour. Mixed spices, taut and tense, direct and piercing in its lengthy finale, which concludes with a pleasant touch of chewiness. Superb pinot.$567.00 -
The Real Review (99)
Impressively deep, bright red-purple colour, in great shape for an Australian pinot of its age, then the bouquet arrives with a great complexity of smoked charcuterie, root vegetables, dark cherry and blackberry delivered with great intensity and volume. The concentration and depth are outstanding and it's all delivered with great elegance and refinement. The lightness of touch doesn't contradict the power or persistence. A spectacular pinot noir.$529.00 -
The Real Review (98)
Deep red/purple, bright and youthful colour. The bouquet shows black pepper, latent dark berries, some 'forest floor' bunchy touches and a hint of freshly-turned earth—a stylish and hi-fidelity varietal nose. The palate is likewise intense and bright, with silky-textured tannins in fine balance, acidity evident and refreshing, inviting the company of appropriate food. Brilliant bouquet and flavour. A stunning wine in an elegant cool-grown style.$414.00 -
The Real Review (97)
Youthful and bright in the glass. Beautiful, lifted aromas of blueberry, spice, cola, sap, nutmeg oak and dried flowers. Mid-weight, bright and lively on the palate, full of blue fruits, spice, bramble and briar. There’s real purity and poise and the tannins and acidity are en pointe. Absolutely delicious!$91.00 -

(6x75cl) 2021The Real Review (98)
Deep, bright red with a good rim of purple leads into a super-aromatic peppery, vegetal and spicy bouquet. There is an earthiness on the mid-palate and refreshing but not overt acidity, the weight is medium to full bodied and the tannins subtly drying and savoury, in perfect balance with the weight and fruit intensity. A stylish and beautiful cool-grown shiraz in what could be termed a 'syrah' style.$362.00 -
(6x75cl) 2022The Real Review (98)
Deep and bright red-purple hue; earthy savoury pepper/spice and dried-herb aromas, the palate intense and brightly focused, driving and long, with great depth of cool-grown shiraz flavour and tremendous elegance. Fruit sweetness is deep in the core and this is balanced beautifully by well-judged tannins. An outstanding shiraz and a gorgeous drink.$401.00
