James Suckling (99)Wow. The aromas are really something else with red fruits, black olives, spices like cardamon and nutmeg, as well as hints of tar and meat. It’s full-bodied yet in check and focus with fine, fine tannins that roll over the palate and create beautiful motion. Chewy yet silky and endless. A great young merlot and one of the best for a number of years. Try after 2028. |

James Suckling (97)The aromas of dark berries, violets and perfume are enchanting. The palate is medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are polished and so elegant and they run the length of the wine. They are rather endless. Very classy and balanced. A merlot and sangiovese blend. Give this a year or two, but it’s already a joy to drink. Drink or hold. |

James Suckling (98)An opulent yet tensioned young red with blackberries, violets and black olive skin character. Full-bodied. But has so much energy and focus. Goes on for minutes. A blend of merlot and sangiovese. Best after 2028. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97+)This is an extraordinary vintage of the 2021 Paleo that I was able to taste several times. Profound and complex, it’s balanced, layered, and pure. The nose cascades with aromas of cassis, graphite, fresh mint, crushed Mediterranean herbs, polished leather, and tobacco. The palate has a good deal of depth, but it’s focused and detailed. It has a noble feel, with a mouthwatering structure and a long-lasting and exceptional finish. This is one of the best vintages I have tasted of Paleo Rosso, and it has the structure to cruise for decades. |

Wine Spectator (93)A well-structured, big red. Lots of spice, cinnamon and ripe fruit. Full-bodied and very silky, with lots of raisin, spice and berry character and toasted oak. Needs time to mellow. Best after 2003. 1,000 cases made. -JS |

Vinous (89)Very dark ruby with a garnet core. Pure, high-toned raspberry nose, with hints of clove and cinnamon. Medium-to-full-bodied, with a noticeable bite of acidity but caressing tannins. Red fruit and cranberry flavors show through, though not very forcefully, and the finish is persistent and clean. Not as generous or convincing as it could be given the excellent track record of this estate. |

Vinous (90)The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino presents a dark and brooding display of crushed strawberry and cherry, with savory herbs and moist earth tones, as a hint of animal muskiness adds intrigue. On the palate, soft, fleshy textures are contrasted by a mix of tart red fruits, spice, and saline minerals, as hints of fine tannin settle on the senses. The finish is long and structured, with a tingling buzz of acid and minerals, as hints of dried red berries are slowly fading. I have to wonder if the fruit will hold up long enough for these tannins to fully resolve; yet to be perfectly honest, even with its austere finish, the 2015 Silvio Nardi Brunello is already very easy to like. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93)Pouring a dark red color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is sappy and ripe with aromas of baked blackberries, lavender, balsamic herbs, chewing tobacco, and forest floor. A lush, full-bodied wine with velvety tannins, a coating, rich texture, a well-balanced feel, and polished oak spice through the finish, it offers good length and should continue to improve over the coming 10-12 years. |
