    • Tortochot Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2012 (12x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (93)

The 2012 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from 0.42 hectares of 50-year-old vines. This is another exemplary expression of this vineyard with a more sensual bouquet than the Charmes-Chambertin: perfumed raspberry and fresh strawberries billowing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, very well poised and sporting well-judged acidity. There is a natural, refined composure to this Mazis-Chambertin, which does not short-change you in fruit intensity on the rounded, velvety finish. This is probably the best wine I have tasted from this domaine.

    • Tortochot Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2013 (12x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (92)

The 2013 Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru was bottled in December and aged in 100% new oak. Even though there is more new wood than the Charmes, here on the Mazis I find superior integration and it is in sync with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but supple tannin, good body and density but with sufficient elegance on the finish. This is a broad-shouldered Mazis-Chambertin that should reward cellaring.
    • Tortochot Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 (6x75cl)

The Tortochot Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014, a masterclass offering from the heritage-rich Domaine Tortochot, showcases the robust elegance of France's Côte de Nuits region. Matured for an immersion experience of 18 months in oak barrels, the wine has been lovingly crafted from Pinot Noir grapes, affording it depth and a pleasantly complex palate. Deep ruby in colour, one can expect an intoxicating bouquet of red and black fruits accompanied by earthy undertones and spice nuances. On tasting, it presents exceptional structure with beautifully integrated tannins and a long, lingering finish. Critics have lauded this expression for its impeccable balance of fruit clarity, acidity, and oak character. The honourable viticulture practices of the fourth-generation, female-led Domaine Tortochot reflect in every bottle of this Grand Cru wine, making the Tortochot Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 an unmissable treasure for connoisseurs seeking authenticity.

The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a rather backward and introverted bouquet offering boysenberry fruit and a touch of India ink. The palate is balanced with fine tannin and well-judged acidity. It just misses a degree of complexity and mineralité, making the finish pleasant but not memorable or profound.

      Burghound (92)

(from .42 ha parcel in Mazis-Haut). A more restrained though more layered nose reflects notes of various dark berries, newly turned earth and plenty of gamy sauvage character. The rich, generous and reasonably concentrated medium weight flavors also exude evident minerality on the solidly powerful and impressively long finale. This does however need more depth so I strongly advise holding this in reserve for at least 5 to 7 years first.
