Pibran
The wine of Chateau Pibran draws on the heritage of Pauillac’s outcrops. Established at the turn of the 19th century, Pibran’s wine is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of twelve months. Whilst this 17-hectre vineyard may be in its infancy by Bordeaux standards, tradition leads the way.

The 2006 Pibran has a surprisingly sumptuous bouquet of raspberry coulis and blackberry scents mixed with vanilla. It is much more precocious than anticipated. The palate has a smooth texture and a touch of dark chocolate infusing the black fruit, and there is a discreet lactic element on the finish. This is a very good wine for a 2006, although the oak feels a little prominent after so much time in bottle. Tasted at the Pibran vertical at Château Pichon-Baron.$1,180.00 -

The 2017 Pibran is a juicy, absolutely delicious Pauillac to drink now and over the next decade or so. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice, mint and dried cherry add pretty aromatic top notes to round things out. The 2017 is not super complex or structured, but it is a wine of immense pleasure and sensuality. I loved it.$404.00 -

Lots of cassis, graphite, chalky minerality, and sappy herb notes emerge from the 2019 Château Pibran, a rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated Pauillac. I love its purity of fruit, the balance is spot on, and the tannins, while present, are perfectly ripe and polished. It's not a blockbuster and shows the more elegant style of the vintage, but it's a gorgeous, classy Pauillac that will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have 25+ of prime drinking.$215.00 -

More cassis, earthy blackcurrants, tobacco, and lead pencil notes dominate the 2020 Château Pibran, and it has a more straight, focused, structured style on the palate, with the vintage's freshness and purity front and center. The tannins are ripe and polished, and it has good concentration, nicely integrated oak, and a great finish. It's another terrific wine from this brilliant team. The blend is 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 18 months in 50% new French oak.$241.00 -
