About Maison Louis Jadot
A legendary name in Burgundy with which every collector will be intimately familiar, Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Henry Denis Jadot, although the family had roots as grape growers in the region dating back far further than this.
Purchased by the Kopf family after the death of the last male members of the Jadot family, the Maison currently owns over 60 hectares of vines itself whilst purchasing fruit from select growers to supplement their holdings. In Jacques Lardière, this mighty winery has one of the most experienced and highly respected winemakers in the entire region, having held the position through the transition of ownership since 1970!
A true pioneer of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, Lardière believes the terroir of his sites is the single most beautiful tool at his disposal. It is the soil and sunlight of Burgundy which transposes the wines of Maison Louis Jadot, conveying a sense of time and place in the greatest of Burgundian fashions.

The 2018 Beaune Boucherottes 1er Cru fights off a bit of reduction on the nose to reveal a mélange of red and black fruit, oyster shell and lavender aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with confit-like black fruit, fine acidity. Sweet and tinged with fig and cassis toward the seductive if rather simplistic finish. Good medium red. Roasted cherry, smoke, chocolate, leather and earth on the nose and palate. Sweet, dense and rich, with very good stuffing, but not yet harmonious for all its soil character. Lardiere is unlikely to bottle this before April.$339.00 -

The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Jadot's six Beaune premier crus, with impressive delineation and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, chalky tannins and a silver thread of acidity interwoven through the dark cherry, iodine, cassis and red currant notes. The finish is structured and exerts a gentle grip, but the persistence is tangible, suggesting that this Clos des Ursules has a long future ahead.$628.00 -

Good medium red with a faint amber tinge. Less fruit and more soil and game on the nose than the '97. Dense and sappy in the mouth, showing good plummy lift but also an edgy quality to its fruit component. Can't match the '97 or '99 for dimension but then this wine is rather tight and ungiving. Still, it appears to possess the tension and verve to continue to evolve positively. Finishes with tannins that dust the front teeth. Barnier says his colleagues at Jadot are not yet drinking their top '96 reds, but I wonder if this wine will ever truly blossom in bottle. Saline but not particularly sweet or rich, in the style of many wines from this vintage.$1,640.00 -

This red is solidly structured and packed with fruit. Black cherry and wild blackberry notes are beginning to struggle against the dense tannins as this appears to be shutting down. The 2017 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has an attractive, wild strawberry, orange blossom and pomegranate bouquet, pure and charming and quite Chambolle-like in style. The palate is fleshy on the entry, delivering fine grip and decent red fruit laced with white pepper and graphite, but it tapers toward the finish, refusing to "kick on" and leaving you wanting more. The 2018 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has a very composed, detailed bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry and pressed rose petal aromas, the most elegant of the three Cortons 2018s from Jadot. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins and wonderful acidity. Very harmonious, with an almost luxurious but compelling finish. Superb.$614.00 -

The 2019 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is excellent, unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, plums, orange rind, dark chocolate, sweet spices and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with broad shoulders and rich, powdery structuring tannins. Beautifully concentrated, this even has a bit of baby fat on it now. That's just fine as that provides a landing pad for the tangy tannins and racy acidity in this cuv e. The vines sit in iron-rich soils which give a slightly burly edge to the mouthfeel, despite the lush ripeness. For those preferring richer Pinot styles, this will show well now. For those seeking more finesse and multi-dimensional aromatic development, give this five years or so. 2023-38$541.00 -

The 2022 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has a tightly wound bouquet with dark plum, raspberry coulis, incense and light sous-bois scents. It takes quite a few swirls of the glass to get the aromas going. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured, assertive opening. The tannins are slightly chalky, lending this Corton-Pougets edginess/nerve. Fine mineralité towards the finish yet tightly wound and almost curmudgeonly in its nascent state, this Grand Cru will demand long-term agin$840.00 -

Taken from a foudre rather than cask, the 2023 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has an enticing bouquet with wonderfully defined red berry fruit, hints of tobacco and forest floor, delivering the complexity you'd expect from arguably Jadot's strongest red cuvée in the Côte de Beaune. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Displaying exquisite balance and poise with plenty of nascent energy and a sustained, lightly spiced finish, this 2023 is up to the task of following the impressive 2022. Superb.$718.00 -

(from estate vines in Pougets, facing southeast): Bright yellow. Reticent but pure scents and flavors of ginger, gentian, fresh herbs and menthol convey strong soil-driven energy. More about minerals than fruit but this wonderfully juicy wine boasts terrific thrust and early personality, not to mention outstanding flavor intensity and generosity. FYI: the cellar price for this wine is 80 Euros, while the Montrachet sells for 500. You make the call.$276.00 -

Cask sample. Tantalising aroma – so young but you can sense the potential. Deep, pure citrus, barely inflected by the creamy oak but given breadth and texture by it. This has beautiful purity with striking aromas of lemons and limes, as well as fresh yellow grapefruit and a strong, wet-stone edge. The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a fresh bouquet of fennel, mint and light hazelnut aromas, all complementing the citrus fruit. The palate is vibrant and fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity. Harmonious from start to finish, it delivers an appealing spiciness that leaves the tongue tingling, thanks to a dab of ginger on the aftertaste. Very fine.$1,190.00 -

This comes from southern-facing vines and possesses an exotic collection of aromas. Among them are bananas, rainwater, sweet spice and dried flowers. Recently stirred so cloudy. Affects the bouquet too, so that is hard to judge. Unquestioned weight, plenty of energy, the lees with the wood shows more at the finish. No reason why this should not be an excellent wine. Another sample was produced, representing the component raised in foudre only, 10 barrels worth, so one third of the whole, has a clear pale lemon and lime colour. The fruit is clearly ripe but with no signs of exotic fruit. This fills the palate beautifully, a little citrus, enough white fruit flesh and then a long stony finish. Absolutely what it should be, and in 2022 something more. Drink from 2032-2040+. Tasted: October 2023.$839.00 -
