Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-93)
100% new wood, all from Tonnellerie Rousseau, done with Jean-Pierre’s specified toast. This bold move on the oak front has not influenced the nose too much. An intriguing mix of red and black, with the spicy florality of the pedicels very evident but also integrated. Oak shows up at the back, but will resolve with this fruit concentration. Drink from 2027-2031. Tasted Nov 2024.$668.00 -

(6x75cl) 2021Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
Medium to dark purple. Pepper and spice up front along with some remarkably refined fruit. The intensity is compact at the front then opens out much more behind, with black raspberry becoming more apparent. The intensity is impressive for 2021 and the natural balance undeniable. Sweet fruit finish. Drink from 2028-2035.$2,675.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)
100% new wood, to bottle in April. The wood comes from mixed forests, as Jean-Pierre thinks Tronçais doesn’t work here. A bright fresh crimson ruby. More floral more sensual, the early morning rose says Jean-Pierre. This is more quintessentially Vosne than the Brûlées, with a lifted and balanced flair, a mix of darked red fruits, avoiding the blacker side. White pepper spice becomes more apparent at the end. A thick velvet coat of fruit throughout. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.$1,790.00 -

5 Star Wine. An even deeper purple. I thought it couldn’t get better than Les Brûlées, but it can. The fruit is a little darker, more raspberry than cherry, and there will soon be the lightest of chocolate notes. At this level the whole bunch clouds just add a nuance. This is more complex than the Brûlées, with a greater depth of fruit but could not be any more harmonious. Drink from 2029-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.$1,725.00 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées has a more broody and introspective bouquet compared to the 2013 Malconsorts from Bichot, although it has its own virtues, bestowed with gorgeous dark plum and cranberry scents, again a touch of dried rose petal lending a kind of femininity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red cherry and cranberry fruit, nicely structured with a fine line of acidity. There is a touch of chewiness on the finish although with age this will mellow and turn into a fine Vosne-Romanée. Tasted September 2016.$2,505.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)
A deep bright purple. The nose has the characteristic (of Brûlées) smoky struck flint note to it, which adds complexity to the red fruit which is as abundant here as the other wines. Lush in the middle then a structure which tames the extrovert nature, a good point of acidity alongside ripe tannins, and some darker fruit to finish. Potentially extremely fine. Drink from 2028-2035.$2,110.00 -

(5 Star Wine) Deep ruby crimson colour. At this end of the scale the power of the fruit and the vineyard character completely outweigh the vinification. 100% new wood (Tronçais) is invisible. Instead, we find the slaty and singed character of the vineyard, plus an astonishing wealth of fruit. A thickness of texture which is extraordinary. Quite stunning this year with the blood red depth of fruit. Enough acidity behind and exceptional pure as well as concentrated. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.$2,170.00 -

5 Star Wine. Ruby purple with a pinker edge. Such an elegant nose. There is a little bit of the singed rock but it barely competes with the exceptional fine red cherry and raspberry bouquet. This could be his best Brûlées yet and that is really saying a very great deal. Sensational texture, unexaggerated fruit, just joyous and gorgeous. Grace personified. The only reason I could consider withholding the 5th star is because the En Orveaux cuvée is even finer! Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.$1,565.00 -

40% new wood, December bottling. Far from the deepest in colour, but definitely not the least elegant either! Rose petals abound. A few fresh alpine strawberries too. This has remarkable tension on the palate and is almost as nuanced as an Echezeaux (at least as, Jean-Pierre thinks!). Certainly there is a gorgeous, almost glossy aftertaste. Highest pH. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2023.$1,250.00 -

5 Star Wine. The village Vosne and the remaining cuvées all see 100% new wood. Glowing purple. Roses in early bloom. Goodness me this is so svelte on the palate with just some white pepper at the back. The fruit is at optimal ripeness, still red but with an additional generosity and the stems are perfectly integrated. A fractional saline note at the back adds an extra little zest. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Nov 2024.$1,590.00 -

Guyon walks the old-vine parcels that produce this cuvée a day or two before harvest, selecting grapes by taste and marking which vines to pick and which to relegate to the regular Vosne-Romanée. The ensuing 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Charmes de Mazières is outstanding, unfurling in the glass with a deep but reserved bouquet of wild berries, rose petal, cinnamon, incense and orange rind. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied and deeper, more concentrated and more layered than the regular Vosne, framed by fine chewy tannins that will need some time. It's a wine that transcends the vintage.$1,695.00 -

Bursting with aromas of blackberries, cassis, spices, rose petals and orange rind, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Charmes de Mazières is medium to full-bodied, rich and chewy, with a muscular chassis of firm tannin and a reserved, introverted profile. Guyon hopes to bottle it without added sulfites.$372.00 -

Not deeper in colour, perhaps just a touch brighter even than the village Vosne. An even finer detail, with more precision, still just a note too much of new oak. Broader shoulders, more structure behind, which tames the fruit and stops it getting soupy. An exceptional intensity of liquid raspberry with great persistence. Drink from 2027-2033.$939.00 -

This is a special wine, made from a selection of individual vines in Hautes Maizières that are more than 60 years old. There’s 100% new oak, but it is very discreet. It shows deep red fruit, and on the nose darker red roses. Intense and profound, this is charming and floral. Like the others, 100% “tri en nuage.”$1,095.00 -

5 Star Wine. A selection of individual old vines within Vosne-Romanée. A richer purple and notably more powerful in bouquet without toppling over. What an explosion of fruit, so totally luscious, roses and raspberries, a fraction of pepper, impeccable length. The beginnings of a chocolate note but above all some really well harnessed deep raspberry fruit still with floral overtones. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.$1,065.00
