Giscours
In fairytale fashion, Alexandeer van Beek arrived at this Margaux estate in 1995 to do the 2 week harvest. He stayed, became the managing director, overseeing major replanting and huge growth in quality. A Chateau with a history dating back to 1552, Giscours is flamboyant with great texture and full of personality.

The 2021 Giscours is fabulous. In fact, the 2021 is one of the best Giscours in recent memory. Silky and impeccable in its balance, the 2012 possesses magnificent elegance that brings out its pedigreed personality. Rose petal, lavender, spice, gravel and black cherry all come together, framed by silky tannins that wrap it all up. The 2021 is less aromatic than most recent vintages, but the depth here is considerable, as is the potential. Taste two times.$472.00 -

(12x75cl) 2022James Suckling (98)
Stunning aromas of blackcurrants, dark mushrooms and black cherries with forest-floor notes. Full body that fills your mouth with fine, caressing tannins and dark, flavorful fruit. The tannins are very intense and structural, spreading across the palate in layers and giving intensity and energy. Plenty of energy and verve here. This has gravity, too. 64% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 3% petit verdot and 3% cabernet franc. Best after 2029.$834.00 -

The 2023 Giscours is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, plum, new leather, dried herbs, chocolate and gravel infuse the palate with notable depth and intensity. This has really shut down post-bottling. Giscours is usually much more charming in its youth. Today, the stress of a vintage marked by heat and low yields of just 30 hectoliters per hectare comes through in the wine's tannic profile and overall feel.$687.00 -

Bright and vivid second wine of Giscours shows such resounding energy with lots of blueberry and currant character. Shows its majority of merlot here. Fine and polished. Remake of the 2015?$473.00 -

The 2018 La Sirène de Giscours is a lovely second wine laced with radiant red berry fruit, cedar, smoke, licorice and dried flowers. Medium in body and nicely textured, the 2018 has so much to offer. It is an especially racy, inviting second wine from Giscours. The high percentage of Cabernet Franc (21%) adds striking perfume and aromatic depth. The blend is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc and 13% Merlot.$362.00 -

The 2021 La Sirène de Giscours is a pretty rich, dense second wine. Black cherry, leather, tobacco and deeply pitched spice notes lend notable presence. Rich, profound, layered and nuanced. The 2021 stands out for its strong aromatic presence, but it's also quite deep and elegant at the same time. The Cabernets are quite expressive in this tasting. The Sirène is a fabulous second wine. Tasted two times.$221.00 -

Black cherries, new leather, leafy herbs, and some spicy, graphite-like notes all emerge from the 2022 Château Giscours Haut Médoc, a terrific Haut-Médoc from this estate with a pure, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It would make one hell of a house red and should have a solid decade of longevity. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc.$145.00
