Pale yellow. Bracing aromas of lemon, ginger, chalk and spices. At once dense and penetrating, with outstanding citric cut to the complex, slightly high-toned flavors of lemon zest, white pepper, minerals and subtle resiny spices. Here, too, the wine's intense chalky character gives it an impression of stronger acidity than the numbers would suggest. Boasts terrific fruit intensity, and the wonderfully precise finish goes on and on. A great showing today, and one of the superstars of the vintage.$418.00 -

Pale silver-lemon color. Aromas of lemon ice and minerals complicated by nuances of flowers and almond. At once penetrating and tactile, with juicy, very dry flavors of wet stone, menthol and spices conveying a strong impression of saline minerality. Boasts lovely density and class--and balanced from the start even if it will unwind over the next couple decades in bottle Dauvissat, who added yeasts to this wine due to the hail, said he'd wait ten years. (just 30 hectoliters per hectare produced; this was the first vineyard Dauvissat harvested--on September 2, the second day after the hail storm)$1,175.00 -

From bottle, the 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is more immediately expressive than the Preuses, revealing aromas of honeyed lemons, preserved citrus and quince. On the palate, it's fuller-bodied, deep and ample, even rich, with a layered core, succulent acids and almost chewy levels of extract, concluding with a long finish. It's a very serious Les Clos that could well be the wine of the vintage.$914.00 -

The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is simply magnificent. In this vintage, all the Clos signatures are kicked up a few notches. Readers will find a dramatic Chablis of grand, sweeping proportions. Lemon confit, white pepper, mint and dried flowers build as this flamboyant, exotic Chablis shows off its curves. The 2018 is simply magnificent. There is not much more I can say than that.$510.00 -

I generally have a slight preference for Dauvissat's Les Preuses, a preference I suspect Vincent Dauvissat shares, but the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, at least at this early stage, gets my nod as the king of the cellar—and the wine of the vintage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, fresh bread, oyster shell, white flowers and wet stones, it's full-bodied, layered and textural, with huge concentration, racy acids and a long, resonant finish.$4,550.00 -
(1x150cl) 2021Vinous (94-96)
The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is more open on the nose than Les Preuses, more floral with citrus peel and orange blossom aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, lightly spiced, quite cohesive but maybe the Les Preuses shows a little more sophistication towards the finish. This should evolve into a divine Les Clos but as usual, it will need time.$829.00 -

(1x75cl) 2007Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (94-97)
Pale, bright yellow. A great expression of soil on the nose: mirabelle, violet, brown spices, medicinal herbs and hints of exotic fruit; showing less floral character than usual at this stage. Wonderfully silky, seamless and rich yet almost magically light on its feet for its serious volume. I find this extremely unevolved and in need of much more elevage The strong back end is dusty, sappy and downright invigorating.$520.00 -

(1x75cl) 2018
Vinous (95-97)
The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru is a wine of precision and power. Tightly wound and explosive, the 2018 possesses tremendous energy and tension that sizzles from start to finish. The combination of richness and austerity is so compelling. The 2018 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine.$297.00 -

Wine Advocate (97)
The 2019 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with notes of oyster shell, orange blossom, iodine, wet stones and freshly baked bread. Full-bodied, deep and tightly wound, with racy acids, chalky structuring extract and an incredibly intense, pungently saline finish, this is a magical young wine from Dauvissat.$628.00 -

Vinous (94-96)
The 2020 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru has a mineral-driven bouquet, very flinty and linear at the moment. The palate is well balanced, powerful and deep, turning very spicy on the midpalate and delivering a crescendo of flavors toward the finish. Yet, something about this Les Preuses says it’s holding back much of what it has to offer. Be patient.$353.00 -

(1x150cl) 2021Vinous (92-94)
The 2021 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru needs a little more cohesion on the nose, and I was expecting a little more power to come through. I suspect that I just caught this on an off day. The palate is better with fine cohesion and acidity, decent depth with orange zest and spice. Very harmonious and persistent on the finish - I suspect this will open up beautifully once in bottle, but for me, it is shaded by the Les Clos at the premature juncture.$863.00 -

An example of purity and stony tension, Vincent Dauvissat’s 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses is the crowning achievement of an extraordinary portfolio. With an understated Chablisien character, it opens in the glass to reveal a marine bouquet of oyster shell and iodine mingling with lemon zest and white flowers. Refined and laden with incisive acids, an abundance of chalky structuring extract and with a persistent, searingly saline finish, it is more ethereal and elegant than Les Clos yet possesses all the prerequisites to age as gracefully—provided the cork holds.$1,110.00 -

As one might reasonably anticipate, the 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses follows a more understated trajectory than Les Clos yet is no less profound. Its bouquet unfurls layers of sea breeze, spring flowers and orange peel mingling with iodine and flint. The medium- to full-bodied palate is filigreed and laser-focused, built around a crisp core of fruit and propelled by racy acidity toward a long, saline finale. Elegant and ethereal, it promises a long and broad enjoyment window.$3,898 - $4,678

Reticent aromas of menthol and mint. Fat and sweet in the mouth; more open-knit today than the 2014 but still showing good flavor definition and a touch of menthol austerity. Finishes with a bracing white grapefruit quality and lovely restrained sweetness. Transcends its appellation and reveals virtually no evidence of compromised grape skins.$1,075.00
