The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has quite an intense bouquet of copious red cherries, raspberry preserve and orange blossom aromas, although it does not quite possess the same complexity as this vineyard’s finest efforts. The elegant palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, tart red fruit and a slight citrus element toward the finish. A capable Les Amoureuses, rather than one you will instantly fall in love with.

(Outstanding) A markedly spicy and slightly more elegant nose is both quite pretty and floral in character with just a touch of wood toast to the mostly red currant-scented aromas. The ultra-refined, sleek and lacy middle weight flavors that possess a velvety mouthfeel that contrasts with the firm and youthfully austere finally that is very well balanced. This lovely effort should amply reward medium to even longer-term patience.

(Sweet spot Outstanding) Once again the nose is quite restrained while remaining wonderfully elegant and even more floral with its cool and admirably pure aromas of pomegranate, cherry, spiced tea and plenty of violet and lavender nuances. There is outstanding intensity, in fact it's presently almost painful, to the pungently mineral-driven middle weight flavors that display terrific persistence on the youthfully austere and equally chiseled finish. This is impressive though note well that it's very compact and a wine that will require extended patience.

Wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, sweet red berries, petals, licorice and spices, the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses is medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, with a pretty, perfumed core of fruit framed by melting tannins, concluding with a saline finish.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Chabiots 1er Cru has quite a stemmy nose that rather obscures the terroir and fruité at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a chewy opening, quite firm in the mouth, just missing some finesse and Pinoté towards the finish. A bit too firm for a Chambolle, at least in my book.

The stand out wine at Bichot in 2012, even though it was made from (very special) purchased grapes. Pepper spicy, concentrated, yet clearly defined it's silky, sweet and beguilingly fruity with very subtle oak integration, fine-grained tannins and a silky, palate-caressing finish.

The 2016 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was picked on 28 September, includes 30% whole bunch fruit and matured in 40% new oak. It has a clean, fresh and vibrant bouquet with red cherry, cranberry leaf and fine mineralité coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, impressive depth, quite saline in the mouth with a pinch of spice/black pepper toward the finish. This is a well-crafted Clos de la Roche that should age with style.

    Vinous (88)

The 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a primal, simple bouquet that struggles to get past the honeyed fruit, the aromatics overwhelmed by the growing season. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry with notes of mango, passion fruit and a touch of spice, suggesting that there might have been some botrytis in the vineyard. This is not unattractive but falls short of other Corton-Charlemagnes of this vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure)

The 2020 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, which does not come from the estate but is harvested by their team, has a very sorbet, menthol-fresh bouquet that has a hard time following the excellent Grands-Echézeaux. The palate is sweet on the entry with candied black cherry and boysenberry fruit, lightly spiced with good weight on the finish. This actually meliorates as it goes along and if the aromatics can gain more complexity in bottle, this should end up being a fine Latricières.
