“One of the great recent success stories”… Monteraponi Chianti Classicos
With the Wine Advocate's Monica Larner recognising this as "a very exciting new project in the works" and Vinous's Antonio Galloni lauding them as "one of the great recent success stories of Chianti Classico", Monteraponi is a wine estate worthy of note.
As Radda in Chianti emerges as one of the top communes in Italy for exceptional, high-toned Sangiovese, Monteraponi is among a group of small producers leading the charge for quality. Situated in a rugged and windswept area, the estate boasts a unique terroir of hard Albarese and softer Galestro limestone soils, with vines planted at some of the highest points in Chianti Classico.
Monteraponi follows organic practices and utilizes traditional, low-tech methods in winemaking. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed, then undergo spontaneous fermentation in cement vats for 25-45 days. The wines are aged in large, used French and Slavonian oak casks for 16-36 months. In a short time, Monteraponi has gained a cult following in Italy for its pure and characterful Chianti Classicos.
