In the recent decade, the emerging Grower Champagne trend in Champagne is shaking up the industry by challenging the dominance of the big Champagne houses. These small-scale producers, also known as "Récoltant-Manipulant" or RM, grow their own grapes and produce their own Champagne, showcasing the unique terroir and character of their vineyards. The NV (2021) Brut Nature Blanc de Noirs ADN de Meunier is a fabulous introduction to the house style. Rich and ample, with real phenolic intensity, the ADN de Meunier is seriously impressive. Dried lemon peel, mint, sage, white pepper and chalk are all amplified in the glass. Light tropical inflections add quite a bit of intrigue. All of the pedigree of this great Champagne vintage comes through in spades. This release is a blend of equal parts 2021 and 2020. No dosage. The NV Champagne Les Grandes Lignes Brut Nature is peppery and bright, more linear and tense, with a compact, long, chalky focus, even in this warm 2020 vintage. It packs in a great deal of energy and intensity, and is more angular in structure, with a nervous and coiled tension. While I appreciate the structure, the other two are more enjoyable at this tasting, as this comes off a bit harsh and austere. They will no longer be working with this parcel in the future because the vineyard owner chose to use it for themselves. Disgorged in September of 2024. Drink 2027-2045.$520.00 -

Best In Show In contrast to our Best in Show Vintage Champagne, this non-vintage Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is clearly a youthful wine – but one with impressive potential. Pale and fine-beaded, its taut, mouth-watering scents of ivy leaf, plant sap, green apple and green grape contrive to suggest both exceptional vineyard origins but also a relatively low dosage. On the palate, the wine is pure, deep, vinous and driving, with fine-bladed intensity. Pristine, structural acidity carries it towards a high-focus, faintly saline finish, once again suggesting soil, stone and fruit rather than yeast and a concluding liqueur.
