Wine Advocate (98)Emmanuel Brochet’s NV Le Mont Benoit (2019 base) continues, year after year, to reaffirm its position as one of the most able exponents of this distinctive chalk outcropping on the plain west of the Montagne de Reims. Serving as an eloquent ambassador for its southeast-facing vineyard, this cuvée encapsulates sense of place, artisinal character and precision all at once. I began following Brochet’s work over a decade ago, and as critical acclaim for his wines has steadily—and deservedly—increased, I’ve found even greater joy in savoring bottles opened by friends, keeping the few remaining for myself. The 2019-base Le Mont Benoit, incorporating 20% reserve wines, continues to impress. It rises from the glass with an evocative bouquet of beeswax, crisp red apple and dried white flowers, mingling with nuances of brioche and peeled almond. On the palate, it is full-bodied, concentrated and profoundly layered, with a generous core of fruit enlivened by abundant chalky structuring extract and mouthwatering acidity that lends it vitality and structure and carries through the searingly saline finish. This is one of the most dazzling interpretations of this vineyard to date. |

Expect a profound depth of fruit, apt acidity, and an air of minerality, leading to a refreshingly long finish. Vinous (93)Bright yellow-gold. An intriguingly perfumed nose evokes poached pear, orange zest, sweet butter and honey, along with a smoky quality and a chalky mineral overtone. Chewy, very deep citrus and orchard fruit flavors are complicated by suggestions of toasted brioche, white truffle and candied fig. Finishes very long and smoky, with resonating floral and mineral qualities. I'd serve this complex Champagne, which comprises wines from 15 different vintages dating back to 1995, with an indulgent, buttery poultry or shellfish dish. |

Jancis Robinson (16)Bottled spring 2013. 30% Chardonnay, 70% Pinot Noir. Vintages 2012 back to 2006. All oak fermented. Quite deep straw. Quite frothy and aggressive mousse. Much harder work than the Blanc de Noirs. Quite a chewy finish. Pretty hard work! |

Andreas Larsson (95)I must say that I was quite excited to taste the Champagne that everybody talked about, but no one tasted yet. A great reunion with my old friend, Rodolphe Péters whose champagne making skills are nothing less than exceptional. A ground-breaking style that blends Chardonnay from Côte de Blancs of which one part is the actual vintage, one part reserve wines and one part mature wines from bottle. The rosé part being Pinot Noir from Vertus made as a rosé de saignée blended just before bottling to keep the notion of youthful red fruity freshness. It shows a very gentle bright rosé colour and a vivid mousse with fine bubbles. The nose starts out elegantly – layered and nuanced with chalky notes, fresh hazelnut, marzipan, fresh butter, pink citrus and lemongrass. After some time in the glass the Pinot enters with aromas of crushed raspberry, cherry and pain d´épice. The palate is nicely built, showing great flavour intensity and an invigorating freshness. It´s classically bone dry (4,5 grams of dosage) with a chalky presence, balanced by a mellow creaminess. Flavours of marzipan, confit de citron and peach with layers of mature nuttiness and pastry. Elegantly built with great persistency and precision. Drinks truly well today but should certainly improve from further cellaring. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)The NV Brut Rosé Petite Fleur (base 2021) is a very pretty wine. Sweet red cherry fruit, cranberry, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco lend lovely aromatic nuance. The 2021 base is a touch forward, so I would not push my luck on aging. Then again, the Petite Fleur is made for early drinking. The Petite Fleur comes across as a Rosé with a bit of bottle age. Readers who enjoy Rosés with that kind of slightly mature character will enjoy this quite a bit. |
