Pol Roger's 2008 Rosé Vintage is an impressively full-bodied, round and fruity as well as structured Champagne. Dressed in a beautiful salmon color, the 2008 opens beautifully clear, deep and fresh on the aromatic and spicy perfumed nose where red berry (raspberries!) and aromatic herbs are displayed. Full, intense and rich on the palate, this is an expansive, perfectly round, vinous and already accessible Champagne with power, structure and finesse. The finish is just excellent—fresh, with well-integrated acidity and a functional but not prominent mineral backbone.$170.00 -

Based on their Brut Vintage 2012 (60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay) to which is added 15% of still Pinot Noir from the best crus of the Montagne de Reims. Aged for six years in bottle before disgorgement. A relatively deep colour with a tomato (colour, not flavour) tinge. A really very opulent array of aromas. Serious grip on the finish. This is a serious rosé with ageing potential. Quite pungent and great balance. Very brisk and revitalising on the finish. Neat and long. This would be very happy at the table.$168.00 -

Rather simpler nose than the other vintage of Pol Roger tasted alongside [the 2009]. Lots of lemon on the palate – lemon soufflé. Then it falls away a little. This rich, full-bodied Champagne is a classic from this producer. Its richness is emphasized by ripe Pinot Noir that dominates the blend, typical of the house style. Pol Roger's just-released 2013 Brut Vintage is a beautifully chiseled, incisive wine that will appeal immensely to purists. Unwinding in the glass with scents of citrus zest, white flowers, crushed chalk and hints of fresh sourdoughs, it's medium to full-bodied, racy and precise, with a nicely concentrated and tightly wound core, tangy acids and an elegant pinpoint mousse. After the rich, muscular 2012 vintage, the 2013 represents quite a contrast; I'm not sure we'll see its stylistic like again for some time, so readers with classically inclined palates will want to stock up—advice I'll be following myself.$459.00 -

The 2015 Brut Vintage is a very pretty Champagne to drink now and over the next decade or so. Gentle hints of apricot, spice, dried flowers and baked apple tart lend quite a bit of nuance. There’s gorgeous vinous intensity to the 2015 accompanied by a whole range of citrus, floral and chalk overtones that emerge over time, adding brightness as well as cut. Already very drinkable with the acidity not especially noticeable, although presumably it will gain in aromatic complexity with bottle age. I found it less than enthralling when I first tasted it and gave it a score of 16.5 but when I was served a glass blind from my re-stoppered bottle a few days later, I was impressed. Pol Roger’s 1975 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, here in its debut release and from magnum, is utterly spellbinding. Pastry, pear, peach, apricot, brioche and a gentle hint of spice open up in a captivating, resonant Champagne of the highest level. The combination of toastiness and freshness recalls Dom Pérignon’s 1975 Oenothèque, which is still one of the greatest Champagnes I have ever tasted.$4,725.00 -
