Damoy's 2013 Chambertin comes across as decidedly wild and powerful in style. Juicy black cherries, mint, sage, lavender and violets flesh out as the 2013 shows off its breadth and density. Today, the Chambertin is quite raw, as the malos aren't quite finished. I suspect the 2013 will be quite a bit more complete and harmonious in a few months, once the elements meld together further. Still, the 2013 is impressive just the same.$2,315.00 -
Vinous (93-96)
The 2013 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is incredibly dense at this stage. Powerful yet implosive, the 2013 is a ball of tightly wound energy. Dark cherry jam, cloves, mint and hard candy are barely developed in an embryonic Bèze that appears to have a very bright future ahead of it. The aromatics continue to soar as the wine sits in the glass, hinting at what is to come. Readers will have to be patient with this decidedly authoritative, incisive Bèze.$2,910.00 -

Sip after sip, the Pierre Gelin Chambertin-Clos De Beze Grand Cru 2013 demonstrates a poetic interplay between vibrant freshness and distinguished mellowness. An indispensable addition to any discerning wine connoisseur’s collection that truly honours the grandeur of Burgundy.

Pale yellow. Mineral, menthol and pear drop aromas show a slight medicinal aspect. The sweet pear drop character carries through onto the hugely concentrated palate, where sound acidity and a phenolic edge give the wine a rather muscular impression. But this extremely unevolved Batard needs time. All of this wine finished its malo.$4,065.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
Pale, bright yellow. Sexy spices lift orange and tangy mineral notes on the ripe, slightly exotic nose. Ripe, dense and tangy, showing a lovely balance of sweetness and acidity to its lemon and orange flavors. The long, perfumed finish features very good grip and lift, as well as the obvious influence of sweet oak. The yield here was in the restrained 40 hectoliters-per-hectare range.$731.00 -

(bottled in January of this year; began in 20% new oak and 80% _cuve, then was assembled in old barrels after the malolactic fermentation): Medium yellow. Strong vanillin oak on the nose. Ripe, plush and dry, with the stone fruit flavors currently dominated by oak spice and caramel. Still a bit youthfully austere but fresher than the Cuvée Authentique. Will it absorb the vanillin oak?$860.00 -

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes was slightly reduced on the nose, but on the palate there feels like a little more depth and extraction compared to Laurent Ponsot’s other 2013 crus with succulent ripe tannins, plenty of blackcurrant and wild strawberry fruit with a dense finish that will require some bottle age. I just like the way this stays true to what one expects from a Chambolle-Musigny, but it does not go that extra mile.$1,200.00 -

The 2013 Clos de la Roche Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, from vines planted in 1905, has an inviting, delineated bouquet with vibrant wild strawberry, raspberry preserve and mineral notes. The palate has great tension – so suave and poised with superb symmetry and an effortless finish that I don’t think the Clos Saint Denis has at the moment. Laurent Ponsot did not disguise his enthusiasm for this Grand Cru and I could understand why.$3,375.00 -

The 2013 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is much more flattering on the nose than the Cuvée de Bourdon at the moment, exuding liveliness and precision courtesy of bright red Morello cherries and wild raspberry fruit. The palate is well balanced, fresh and tense with palpable mineralité and tension, sporting great finesse on the finish. This is a sophisticated Corton-Bressandes in the making.$1,150.00 -

The 2013 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, touches of mulberry and briary. It is a relatively conservative Griotte compared to others tasted from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth. A little fuller than the Charmes-Chambertin '13 with fine backbone, this feels chewier, but with plenty of substance on the finish. This is a gutsy Griotte, but it will mellow by the time it is bottled.$2,545.00 -

Burghound (91-93)
This is more complex still if only just with a slightly less elegant array of red and blue fruit scents that include pomegranate, plum, blue berry, earth and a hint of exotic tea. The sleekly muscular middle weight flavors exude a fine bead of minerality on the delicious, intense, well-detailed and powerful finish that delivers excellent persistence. This could accurately be described as a mini Clos de la Roche and should amply repay extended cellaring, indeed it will need at least 6 to 8 years first.$165.00 -

Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of raspberry, minerals and dried flowers complicated by torrefaction notes of mocha and coffee. Round on entry, then sappy in the middle, showing terrific crushed raspberry intensity along with saline, mocha, spice and earth notes. This very taut, energetic wine is even more backward than the Amoureuses. Really saturates the palate on the back end, finishing with outstanding smoky persistence.$1,555.00 -

The 2013 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a dramatic, expressive wine that bursts from the glass with aromas of buttered yellow orchard fruit, smoke, pastry cream, subtle apricot and spice. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and richly textural, with a bright but expansive profile and a long, heady finish. It's already drinking well.$1,265.00 -

Pale, bright yellow. Musky stone fruits and iodiney minerality on the nose. A step up in concentration and mineral tension from the Caillerets, classically dry but still in a pliant style for the year, offering hints of soft citrus fruits, stone and clove. Finishes smooth, suave and long, with excellent breadth and ripeness.$438.00 -

This is also notably reserved but aggressive swirling eventually liberates the densely fruited and noticeably minty nose that is composed by notes of white peach, pear, honeysuckle, wood and citrus hints. As is also typical, this large-scaled, intense, concentrated and overtly powerful effort is clearly bigger, richer and more imposing than the Chevalier but in 2013 I would describe the palate impression as even more refined than usual as it's taut and focused rather than simply massive. The complexity is already amazing as is the strikingly good persistence of the palate staining and beautifully well-balanced finish. And again like the Chevalier this is an exercise in harmony and grace that should enable this monument in the making to age effortlessly for years to come.$2,900.00 -
