Wine Advocate (100)
The 2018 Château Margaux is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, representing 36% of the crop this year. The wine has a pH of 3.8 and 14% alcohol. Deep purple-black in color, it slowly unfurls to reveal tantalizing scents of crème de cassis, wild blueberries and Black Forest cake with hints of redcurrant jelly, rose oil, dark chocolate and cedar chest plus a touch of star anise. The medium to full-bodied palate bursts with opulent black fruit, fragrant earth and floral layers, supported by a rock-solid structure of exquisitely ripe, finely grained tannins and seamless backbone of freshness, finishing with fantastic length. This is classic Margaux at its most seductive, although it is, rather amazingly, approachable and absolutely delicious right now. But, to enjoy its full glory, you will want to cellar it for at least 6-8 years and then watch it metamorphize over the next 40+ years.$2,985.00 -

A rock star Margaux that should be snatched up by readers, the 2018 Château Marquis D'Alesme reveals a dense purple hue as well as ripe, sexy notes of blackcurrants, spicy oak, tobacco leaf, earth, and cedar. Deep, full-bodied, and gorgeously concentrated, it has velvety tannins, a layered, mouthcoating texture, and a great finish. It's a baby, but wow, what a wine. Hide bottle for 5-7 years if you can (you'll be forgiven for opening a bottle early) and it's going to evolve for 30-40 years.$461.00 -

Juicy berry fruits, leafy herbs, and earthy notes emerge from the 2018 Château Mauvesin Barton, and it’s medium-bodied, nicely textured, and elegant, with both nicely integrated acidity and tannins. It shines from its balance and freshness, yet still has the sunny fruit of the vintage.$195.00 -

The 2018 Mazeyres is absolutely gorgeous. Bright, exquisitely perfumed and nuanced, Mazeyres shows just how attractive the best wines from Pomerol's sandier soils can be. Floral notes add lift to a core of red/purplish berry fruit, with striking textural depth and nuance that builds in the glass. Although quite accessible, Mazeyres also offers a good bit of depth while retaining its mid-weight personality. Tasted four times.$307.00 -

The 2018 Mongavey is high-toned on the nose, featuring blueberry, black cherries, crushed violet and blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with cedar-infused black fruit, a fine bead of acidity and good cohesion, and what it lacks in depth it compensates with freshness and joie-de-vivre. Fine.$97.00 -

The 2018 Montlabert is a plump, fruity Saint-Émilion to drink over the near and medium-term. Although not especially complex, the 2018 is tasty and easy to enjoy. Sweet floral and spice notes add perfume to this alluring Saint-Émilion. The tannins could use more polish, though. Tasted two times.$277.00 -

A full-bodied powerhouse as well as a perfect wine, the 2018 Château Montrose is a final blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc that was raised in 60% new French oak. Boasting a deep purple hue as well as awesome levels of crème de cassis and smoky blackberry fruits and notes of tobacco, lead pencil, scorched earth, and chocolate, it's deep, opulent, and incredibly concentrated on the palate, with no shortage of mid-palate depth, tannins, or length. It reminds me a little of a fresher version of the 2003, although there's more Cabernet Sauvignon in 2018 as well as less Merlot. It has that classic Montrose minerality and backward, mineral-laced style, yet I suspect this will be drinkable in just 5-6 years and should evolve into a modern-day legend from this terroir.$2,045.00 -
