The 2018 Château Larcis Ducasse checks in as 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc that comes from a gorgeous hillside terroir on the Côte Pavie, located between Château Pavie and Château Bellefont-Belcier. Aged 18 months in 60% new barrels, it offers a truly sensational bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, espresso roast, scorched earth, bloody meat, chocolate, iron, and bouquet garni. A massive, super-rich Saint-Emilion with a dense, concentrated, layered mouthfeel, it has building yet sweet tannins and incredible purity of fruit. Reminding me of the 2005 shortly after release, this heavenly juice offers astonishing richness and depth while staying flawlessly balanced and elegant. Sadly, there are less than 3,000 cases produced, but this monumental, legendary wine won't hit maturity for a good 8-10 years and will have 40-50 years of longevity if well stored. Hats off to Nicolas Thienpont and consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt for producing one of the wines of the vintage as well as one of the greatest young Bordeaux I've ever tasted.$1,480.00 -

A blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc representing just 41% of the total production, the 2018 Château Laroque is still resting in barrels and oak tanks. Its deep purple color is followed by a classy bouquet of ripe black cherries, cassis, graphite, licorice, and crushed rocks. Deep, medium to full-bodied, with a beautiful mid-palate and ripe, silky tannins, it's an incredible success for the estate, which is firing on all cylinders today thanks to the talented David Suire!$319.00 -

Opulent and racy, the 2018 Laroze hits all the right notes. Cinnamon, new leather, lavender and cedar add gorgeous aromatic top notes to a core of succulent red cherry fruit. Soft contours add immediacy and allure throughout. Best of all, the 2018 will drink well with minimal cellaring.$366.00 -

The 2018 Larrivet Haut-Brion has developed into a gorgeous wine. There is plenty of the tannin I saw in my barrel tastings, and yet all the elements are so well balanced today. Iron, cedar, dried herbs, licorice, dried flowers and mint add striking savory undertones to this deceptively mid weight Pessac-Léognan. Larrivet Haut-Brion is one of the most distinctive reds of the vintage.$203.00 -

The 2018 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion Blanc checks in as 75% Sauvignon and 25% Sémillon that was brought up in 25% new French oak. It has a classic (and terrific) nose of honeyed grapefruit, exotic flowers, and a liquid rock-like minerality. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Bordeaux Blanc with a rounded, expansive texture, nicely integrated acidity, terrific overall balance, and a great, dry, crisp finish. It's already drinking nicely, and while I wouldn't push the aging curve, I wouldn't bet against it drinking brilliant for 15 years either. This wasn't a great vintage for the whites, but this is impressive.$294.00 -

Complex nose, blending notes of elderberries, black cherries, spices, cedar, and violets. It’s full-bodied and structured with elegant tannins and a fleshy texture. Flavorful, savory finish. Try after 2024.$659.00 -

The 2018 Lassègue has a really gorgeous bouquet of luscious dark cherry fruit, cassis, crushed violets and vanilla pod. It becomes increasingly floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and sweet with supple tannins. Licorice and brown spices filter through the black fruit, leading to a satin-textured finish. Very seductive and quite heady, this is a Saint-Émilion that clearly has ambitions, though overall I find it just a little too sweet.$268.00 -

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Latour Martillac bursts from the glass with bold cassis, chocolate-covered cherries and plum preserves scents followed up by smoked meats, violets and aniseed hints plus a waft of Provence herbs. Full-bodied, firm and fine-grained in the mouth, the palate is laden with juicy fruit and savory layers, finishing long and fragrant.$158.00 -

The 2018 d'Aiguilhe Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc done in steel. Lemon confit and floral notes and a touch of reduction, add character as well as a good bit of energy, within the context of the year. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later.$286.00 -

The 2018 Le Crock offers plenty of Saint-Estèphe character in its brambly red berry fruit and burly, but well-balanced tannins. Cedar, tobacco, smoke and earthy notes add quite a bit of aromatic presence. This is an especially rich, potent edition because of dry, warm east winds that caused dehydration, thereby lowering yields. There is plenty of personality here.$421.00 -
