The 2017 Cos Labory is pliant, open-knit and quite expressive. Spice, dried flowers, dried herbs, red cherry and tobacco are all finely-knit. A lovely wine, Clos Labory is just as delightful as it was en primeur. Readers can expect an attractive, mid-weight Saint-Estèphe built for near and medium-term drinking. The 2017 is nicely balanced and easy to like.$179.00 -

The 2018 Cos Labory is fabulous. An extra kick of richness from the warm year and a bit more Petit Verdot than usual result in a Cos Labory that is wonderfully savory, powerful and layered. Black cherry, plum, cloves, chocolate and dried herbs build as this potent, exotically ripe Saint-Estèphe opens in the glass. Today, the 2018 is dark, brooding and in need of cellaring. Cos Labory is a bit wild, but that just adds to its considerable allure.$207.00 -

The 2019 Cos Labory remains rather brawny, but it certainly has a ton of character. Black cherry, plum, gravel, licorice and scorched earth add to an impression of rusticity. Even so, there is plenty of depth and more than enough energy to support many years of fine drinking.$218.00 -

The 2020 Cos Labory is bright and exuberant in the glass. The purity of the flavors is striking. It will be interesting to see if the tannins settle down a bit. Today, they are pretty piercing in their intensity. Raspberry jam, game, iron, licorice, mint and sweet pipe tobacco lend energy and vibrancy throughout. Cos Labory is a touch austere, and yet it has plenty to offer.$336.00 -

Deep crimson. Nose is both fresh and ripe. Not the most opulent wine; it finishes a little dry. Really quite drying in fact. There’s no shortage of ripe fruit here and the minerality of St-Estèphe imposes itself. Another wine that does not taste as though it came from an unripe vintage but you need to love St-Estèphe to love this wine. The finish is distinctly inky and hard work.$244.00 -

(1x150cl) 2022Jeb Dunnuck (94)
The 2022 Château Cos Labory comes from the team at Cos D'Estournel and is based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc raised in 50% new French oak. This saturated purple-hued beauty boasts a great nose of smoky red and black fruits interwoven with notes of graphite, tobacco, and crushed stone. It's a rich, full-bodied, concentrated 2022 with sweet tannins and no hard edges. It already offers pleasure, yet I wouldn’t be surprised to see this still going strong at age 30.$93.00 -

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (86-88)
The 2016 Domeyne is a plump, juicy wine. Dark fruit, chocolate, spice, violet and plum are pushed forward. Succulent and forward, with notable density on the palate, the 2016 should drink well upon release. This is an especially juicy style for Saint Estèphe, yet there is good freshness and energy as well.$254.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (88-90)
The 2019 Frank Phélan is a very pretty, supple second wine that will drink well upon release. Inky dark fruit, licorice, spice, tobacco, dried herbs, lavender and mint all meld together in this supple, mid-weight Saint-Estèphe. There is plenty to like here. All the 2019 needs is élevage to soften the tannins.$145.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (87)
The 2020 Frank Phélan, which will be released in 2023, has a well-defined nose, hints of black olive tinging the black fruit with raspberry and mulberry surfacing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft opening, quite rounded and fleshy, perhaps missing a little tension on the finish. As such, it's an early-drinking Saint-Estèphe that should give several years' drinking pleasure.$146.00 -
(24x37.5cl) 1990Wine Spectator (92)
Extremely pretty and perfumed, with velvety tannins and rich, spicy blueberry flavors. Not a huge wine, but gorgeous. Drink after 1997. 18,500 cases made.$1,315.00 -
(12x75cl) 2000Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89)
Good full deep red. Exotic aromas of black raspberry, baked plum, licorice and roasted meat. Lush, sweet, round and fat, with a mineral firmness in the middle. Still, this opulent 2000 doesn't have quite the verve of the 2001. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good persistence. In the Northern Medoc, 2001 was better than 2000, asserts Bruno Duboscq.$754.00 -
(12x75cl) 2005Wine & Spirit Magazine (93)
This has the powerful damson-plum intensity of great cabernet sauvignon grown in the northern Médoc. The tannins are black but not aggressive, their stoniness cushioned by layers of fruit. There's also an umami character, something like woodland mushroom and the savory skin of tiny wild cherries. An elegant wine performing at the top of its terroir, this will be delicious around eight to 12 years from the vintage.$812.00 -

Richly smooth wine, with great polished fruits and solid tannins. Power and juicy extract.$582.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 2017 Haut-Marbuzet has a very perfumed bouquet with redcurrant, blackberry and light floral aromas, all enticingly pure, albeit without the complexity of some of the best vintages that I have tasted from this Saint-Estèphe cru. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity with good density and grip towards the black pepper tinged finish. Excellent and a wine that is in the mold of previous vintages.$204.00 -

Black and blue fruit, walnuts, gravy, vanilla, praline and cigar box on the nose. Full-bodied with fine tannins. Balanced, layered and polished with a fleshy texture. Harmonious, with elegance and intensity. Beautiful finish. Wow. Drink from 2025.$412.00 -

The 2020 Haut-Marbuzet is open and attractive on the nose, less heavy and toasty than recent vintages. Pure black cherry and raspberry fruit with light iris petal and Indian ink scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite lithe and supple, gently building to a prudently spiced finish. Excellent.$242.00 -
