Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)The 2023 Clos de Sarpe is fabulous. Deep, rich and explosive, the 2023 possesses tremendous textural density and power to match. A burst of dark-toned fruit, chocolate, new leather, incense and dried herbs hits the palate. This builds beautifully through the layered mid-palate and into the explosive, punchy finish. Clos de Sarpe isn't quite as opulent as it used to be, but it remains one of the most distinctive wines in Saint-Émilion and Bordeaux, for that matter. |

Bordeaux | 3 | 90+ (VN (AG)) | $345.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90+)The 2014 Clos des Jacobins is quite powerful and tannic. Dark red and purplish-hued stone fruits, wild flowers, mint, tobacco and sage add aromatic nuance. The tannins remain imposing and need time to soften. The blend is 80 % Merlot, 18 % Cabernet Franc and 2 % Cabernet Sauvignon. Hubert de Boüard is the consulting winemaker. |

Bordeaux | 1 | 92 (VN (AG)) | $467.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)The 2017 Clos des Jacobins is a dark, sumptuous beauty. Succulent dark cherry, red plum, mocha, spice, menthol and pine all flesh out as the 2017 shows off its alluring, inviting personality. Generous and creamy on the palate, with terrific depth, the Clos des Jacobins is a winner in 2017. All the elements are impeccably balanced throughout, and the wine finishes with good energy and depth. This has the structure to age. Tasted two times. |

Bordeaux | 3 | 89-91 (VN (AG)) | $354.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89-91)The 2021 Clos des Jacobins is a pretty, mid-weight Saint-Émilion. Bright red cherry fruit, cedar, spice, tobacco and blood orange lend quite a bit of energy throughout. Pretty floral top notes reappear on the finish. This is nicely done. |

Bordeaux | 22 | 94+ (VN (AG)) | $190.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94+)The 2022 Clos des Jacobins is a wine of imposing depth yet also fine balance. Black cherry, plum, espresso, new leather, lavender and spice are all finely cut in a Saint-Émilion that offers an intriguing mix of body and energy. I would give this a few years in bottle, as the tannins are a bit imposing today. There's room to grow here. This is very nicely done. |

Bordeaux | 2 | 93 (WA) | $695.00
Wine Advocate (93)This sexy, opulent 2000 St.-Emilion has reached full maturity. It possesses a dense purple color to the rim along with loads of mulberry, creme de cassis, kirsch, espresso, and smoky, toasty oak characteristics, a full-bodied, sumptuous/opulent texture, silky tannins, and abundant flavor complexity. Drink it over the next 8-10 years. |

Bordeaux | 2 | 94 (WA) | $1,600.00
Wine Advocate (94)Notes of licorice, blackberry and boysenberry fruit intermixed with some charcoal, burning embers and floral notes all jump from the glass of this rich, soft, succulent wine, which possesses terrific intensity and a hedonistic personality. It is not going to be a long-ager by 2010 standards, but for consumption over the next 10-15 years, it delivers tremendous appeal. |

Bordeaux | 1 | 95 (WA) | $588.00
Wine Advocate (95)Another inky, opaque, purple-colored wine with beautiful blackcurrant, black raspberry, licorice and earthy undertones, this full-bodied, opulent, dense, rich 2012 (90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 14.3% alcohol) is a tour de force in this vintage. This over-achieving estate has hit a home run, which is especially impressive in 2012. This wine ideally needs several years of bottle age and should drink well for 15 or more years. |

Bordeaux | 1 | 93 (WCI) | $106.00
The Wine Cellar Insider (93)Chocolate and black raspberry notes in the nose pair well with the plush, soft, fresh black cherries on the palate. This wine is smooth with freshness in the fruit. From a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is the first vintage to include Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. The wine reached 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.65. 91-93 Pts |

Bordeaux | 1 | 98 (WA) | $1,510.00
Wine Advocate (98)This magnificent wine, which is just beginning to come into full maturity, boasts an inky/purple color as well as copious notes of blackberries, licorice, violets, and a striking chalky minerality. Full-bodied, voluptuously textured and stunningly pure, this great Bordeaux is one of the vintage’s superstars. The finish lasts 40-45 seconds in this majestic, multidimensional St. Emilion. It should continue to drink well for 10-15 years, but why wait? |

Bordeaux | 1 | 93 (VN (NM)) | $1,475.00
Vinous - Neal Martin (93)The 2008 Clos Fourtet is perhaps one of the underrated vintages of that decade. Picked between October 9 and 20 at 28.5 hl/ha, it has a fragrant nose with black cherries, bergamot, black tea and cedar, all with impressive delineation. I do not find the bell pepper scent that I noted five years ago. The palate is medium-bodied with finely sculpted tannins and plenty of dark berry fruit mixed with tea leaf/bay leaf. There's impressive grip on the fresh, sapid finish. Superb. Tasted at the Clos Fourtet vertical in April 2023. |

Jeb Dunnuck (99)Offering up awesome notes of blackcurrants, darker cherries, truffle earth, smoke, and tobacco, the 2010 Château Clos Fourtet is a powerful, full-bodied Saint-Emilion that has flawless overall balance, building yet polished, integrated tannins, remarkable freshness, and a great finish. This concentrated yet seamless 2010 will continue to drink brilliantly over the coming 40+ years. While I still give the nod to the 2009, this is unquestionably a legendary Saint-Emilion, and I wish every reader could taste it. Drink 2025-2065. |

Bordeaux | 6 | 91-93+ (VN (AG)) | $565.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91-93+)The 2013 Clos Fourtet opens with beguiling aromatics. Smoke, slate and new leather meld into a core of dark fruit as this sumptuous St. Emilion opens up in the glass. One of the richer, more resonant wines of the vintage, the Clos Fourtet impresses for its volume and pure breadth. The perfumed, limestone-inflected finish is distinctly Burgundian in its essence. The 2013 finishes with notable sweetness and density for the year. There is a lot to like here. Sadly, production is down 50%. The blend is 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Tasted two times. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98)An absolute blockbuster is the 2015 Clos Fourtet, which is a blend of 88% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. It offers a huge nose of black and blue fruits, loads of incense, violets, chocolate, and underbrush aromas, full body, a seductive, ethereal texture, lots of fine tannins, and a finish that just won’t quit. This is as classy, seamless, and elegant as it gets. Give bottle 4-5 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following two decades. |

James Suckling (97)Love the dark-berry and intense black-olive and chocolate aromas that follow through to a full body and firm and chewy tannins that deliver a rich and delicious finish. Such polish and, at the same time, finesse. But one of the cellar. A blend of 90 per cent merlot, seven per cent cabernet sauvignon and three per cent cabernet franc. Try from 2022. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)The 2017 Clos Fourtet is vivid, rich and super-expressive. Beams of salinity give the 2017 its energy and shape. In the glass, the 2017 is wonderfully vivid and nuanced. Lavender, mint, blue fruits and blood orange all build into the beautifully layered, exquisite finish. In 2017, Clos Fourtet is all class. This is a terrific showing from the Cuvelier family. Tasted three times. |

Bordeaux | 1 | 98 (VN (AG)) | $724.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98)The 2018 Clos Fourtet is one of the most elegant, refined wines of the vintage. Silky and aromatically expressive, Clos Fourtet is all grace. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and sage all lift from the glass. Even with all of the natural richness of the year, Clos Fourtet sizzles with tension and delineation. Then again, that is the magic of the Saint-Émilion plateau. Clos Fourtet is easy to look past in 2018. It is neither exuberant nor exotically ripe. Instead, everything is in reserve. The 2018 is a magical wine, that's all there is to it. Don't miss it. |
