Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)The 2023 Haut-Batailley is every bit as impressive as it was en primeur. Dark and quite imposing, the 2023 offers up an exotic mélange of blackberry jam, gravel, incense, licorice, dried herbs and scorched earth. Even with all of its considerable textural intensity, Haut-Batailley shows a measure of brightness, especially in its aromatics. |

Jeb Dunnuck (91)The second wine of Haut-Batailley, the 2017 Chateau Haut-Batailley Verso is a blend of 60/40 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged in used barrels. It has lots of juicy cherry and cassis notes as well as lots of tobacco and cedary herbs, medium body, juicy acidity, light tannins, and a clean, classy finish. It's a classy second wine I'd be happy to drink any time over the coming 10-12 years. |

Jeb Dunnuck (92)The 2019 Château Haut-Batailley Verso is incredibly floral and perfumed, with beautiful red and blue fruits as well as lead pencil, tobacco, and sappy herb nuances. A medium-bodied, elegant second wine, it has the tannins, mid-palate, and overall balance to drink well for two decades if properly stored. |

Decanter (91)Lacoste-Borie is the second wine of Pauillac fifth growth Grand-Puy-Lacoste. While the 2010 grand vins are not yet in their drinking window, this will fit the bill. The nose has nicely defined cedar and black pepper with hints of struck match and bacon. The palate has softened out wonderfully, but retains structural liquorice and cocoa-infused tannins. There is a succulent black fruit edge, with savoury hints of tobacco and some herbaceousness behind. |
