Another exceptional vineyard in Pauillac is Château Latour, revered for its consistency in producing wines of extraordinary depth, intensity, and longevity. With its unrivaled pedigree and unparalleled reputation, Château Latour stands as a symbol of Pauillac's winemaking heritage. Château Mouton Rothschild, known for its opulent and opulent wines, delights with its richness, elegance, and artful blending.

Pontet-Canet, with its biodynamic practices and uncompromising commitment to quality, produces wines of immense power, depth, and complexity.
The terroir of Pauillac, with its gravelly and well-draining soils, coupled with the influence of the Gironde estuary, provides ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape variety in the region. Bottled in June of 2024, the 2022 Château Mouton Rothschild checks in as classic blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot that was raised all in new barrels. Incredibly concentrated yet light on its feet and graceful, this inky-hued beauty has sensational notes of cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and chocolate that are to die for. It shows the ripe, opulent style of the vintage yet brings sensational purity, loads of tannins, and a gorgeous finish. For the tech geeks out there, this hit 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.86, and an IPT (tannins) of 76. It has the depth of fruit and texture to offer incredible pleasure even today, yet it deserves a decade of bottle age and will evolve for 50-60 years. It reminds me of a mix of the 2009 and 2010.$3,065.00 -

The 2023 Mouton Rothschild is bright and explosive in the glass. Vibrant, rich, deep and so beautifully expressive, the 2023 Mouton is one of my early candidates for wine of the vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon is bumped up to 93% (the highest ever, just behind the 2010), with 7% Merlot and no Cabernet Franc or Petit Verdot in the blend. Time in the glass brings out darker shades of fruit along the wine's complex, dynamic personality. This is a magnificent Grand Vin.$3,126 - $3,713

The 2015 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is a gorgeous second wine from Clerc-Milon. Forward and supple, the 2015 fleshes out in the glass with lovely density and volume. Ripe plum, blueberry, menthol and spice notes give the 2015 much of its seductive personality. Clerc-Milon releases the Pastourelle with some bottle age, when it is ready to drink, with the goal of arriving at a wine list in $100/bottle range. The 2015 is flat-out delicious. The blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.$436.00 -

The 2016 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is absolutely gorgeous. All of the pedigree of this great vintage comes through in a rich, juicy wine endowed with striking textural resonance and depth. Floral and spice notes lift the dark red and purplish berry fruit in a supple, racy Pauillac that will drink beautifully whenever Clerc Milon decides to release it. The Pastourelle is 52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the Merlot very much front and center. As a reminder, the Pastourelle is mostly sold into the restaurant wine trade and is released when the château deems it ready to drink, which is usually a few years later than the other wines in the Mouton stable.$419.00 -

Mostly Merlot and the second wine of the estate, the 2017 Pastourelle De Clerc Milon is a pleasure-bent, plush, delicious 2017 that has ripe black cherry and currant fruits as well as classic notes of damp earth, lead pencil, and toasted spice. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, with ripe tannins and loads of charm, it's going to drink nicely for over a decade.$171.00 -

The 2020 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is soft, supple and inviting, all of which will make it an absolute charmer when it is released in a few years' time. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit are pushed forward. As always, it’s Merlot-based; this vintage has a bit more Cabernet than usual, but that won't be an issue once in bottle. In the past, Pastourelle was shown en primeur, but sold only in bottle, a few years after the vintage, when the team deemed it ready to drink. This is the first vintage that will be offered as futures.$172.00 -

The 2021 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is bold, fruity and delicious. Inky dark fruit, sweet spice, lavender and mocha are front and center. This charming, supple Pauillac will drink beautifully upon release. There's a bit more Merlot in this year's blend, and that really comes through in the wine' open-knit personality.$159.00 -

Violets, cassis, ripe black cherries, and graphite all emerge from the 2022 Pastourelle De Clerc Milon, a ripe, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and lively second wine that has tons to love. As with the Grand Vin, it's undeniably one of the best examples of this cuvée to date. It will keep for two decades if well stored.$168.00 -

The first wine made at the new cellar, the 2014 Château Pédesclaux checks in as 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot aged in 65% new French oak. It's a beautiful wine in the vintage that has awesome purity and precision in its black raspberries, cassis, crushed flowers, and hints of river rock-like minerality. Medium-bodied, silky, pure, incredibly elegant and seamless, with gorgeous purity and elegance, it's a knockout wine in the vintage.$419.00 -

The 2017 Pédesclaux has really come together nicely since I tasted it from barrel. Supple and engaging, 2017 shows all of the radiance and soft contours of Merlot, which makes up nearly half the blend. Hints of leather, smoke and tobacco are laced throughout a core of black cherry/plum fruit. The 2017 is engaging, wonderfully inviting and simply delicious.$294.00 -

A gorgeous wine, the 2019 Château Pédesclaux shines for its pure, elegant, yet concentrated style, and it's certainly one of the finest vintages from this address. Cassis, black cherries, lead pencil, and violet notes all emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. The purity and finesse are truly something here, and while it already offers pleasure, it deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for 20+ years.$245.00
